Do I need to filter tap water? Of course! Only in what way? So that it is not only clean, but also useful.
Modern filters use various cleaning technologies that eliminate harmful impurities, such as chlorine compounds, heavy metals, viruses, bacteria, and also soften and even mineralize water. You can choose from a variety of designs, on which not only the costs of acquiring and installing the device depend, but also the properties and taste of water.
Miracle Pitcher
The easiest way to protect yourself and your loved ones from the consequences of drinking low-quality water is to use a filter jug. This simple device does not require installation, special care and does not take up much space. By design, all filter jugs are similar and familiar: tap water passes through the filter cartridge and gradually flows into the jug. Models differ in size, filter cartridge resource and the volume of filtered water. Capacities with divisions are convenient to use as a measuring cup. Separate models allow you to pour water without waiting until all of it is cleaned. Flat jugs designed for placement on the refrigerator door allow cooling purified water. As a rule, sorbent is used for water purification - activated carbon, ion-exchange resins and other components.Such a filter prevents the formation of limescale, characteristic of hard water, and can trap chlorine. Modern filters use aqualen ion-exchange fiber, which can retain even heavy metals. Another cartridge is sometimes added to the kit with a jug; all subsequent ones will have to be bought, because they need to be replaced approximately once a month. The indicator - calendar mechanical or electronic will remind you of the replacement date.
Flow filters
Pure water is pleasant and useful to drink and, of course, used for cooking: it really has a beneficial effect on the taste of dishes, not to mention tea or coffee. If you prefer to use only purified water in the kitchen, take a look at the flow filters. The breadth of choice is impressive: from miniature nozzles on the tap to massive water treatment systems in the “under the sink” version. Compact nozzles usually have a more modest performance - water flows in a thin stream. The tabletop appliance can be placed next to the sink and independently connected directly to the faucet. Such a device is well suited for a small family with a not very intensive flow of water. The principle of operation, in fact, is similar to that used in filter jugs: a replaceable cartridge (usually using coconut charcoal) purifies water. The filtration rate is about 1.5 liters per minute. Full-featured filters that perform multi-stage water treatment are usually designed for placement under the sink. Flasks and tubes are hidden and do not take up space on the table, and a neat tap for clean water adorns the sink.In urban apartments, models are relevant that can purify tap water from chlorine, heavy metals and oil products, and outside the city, protection from bacterial contamination may be required.
When choosing a flowing water purifier, pay attention to its performance, as well as to the working pressure in the water supply: each device is designed for a certain minimum and maximum pressure (in atmospheres). All filtering elements of flow channels are replaceable. Standard resource - up to a year without replacement. There are models with the possibility of independent cleaning (regeneration) of filters - you can save on consumables.
Multistage systems
In order to always have a supply of drinking water in the house that is not inferior in quality to bottled water, you will need an integrated treatment system based on reverse osmosis technology. In a nutshell, this is a filtration method when a stream under pressure passes through a special membrane that passes only water molecules and completely retains dissolved substances. As in the case of a flow-through, the filter itself is installed under the sink, and a separate tap for drinking water is displayed on the surface. But there are differences in design: reverse osmosis filters are equipped with a storage tank into which purified water is collected. A multi-stage system delays all harmful impurities, completely removes bacteria and viruses, nitrates and nitrites, hardness salts, etc. Using such a water purifier is simple and convenient, and if traditional models had quite impressive dimensions due to the size of the storage tank, then new items become more compact .The only limitation: the performance of the unit depends on the level of water pressure in the water supply, which must be constant and not lower than the threshold value determined by the manufacturer of the water purifier.
